In welcoming the one 100 young chefs to Sunway University, Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University Professor Graeme Wilkinson had this to say;

"We are delighted to have all of you here at our Sunway campus today and hope that you will have a fruitful experience with us. Aside from learning to cook some of our Malay cuisine, and also learn a little bit about the culture, I hope you will come to understand the importance and the need of giving back to society. Your contribution through the packing of meals for the Rise Against Hunger initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) Number 2 - ZERO HUNGER."

An exciting programme designed for young chefs under 25 years of age, the Bill Gallagher Young Chefs Forum provides talented chefs an opportunity to build their network plus learn how to further develop their culinary skills inside and outside the kitchen. The group of young chefs had the opportunity to learn how to serve Asia on a Plate through the Malay Heritage Cooking Class conducted by four chefs from the University's School of Hospitality.

With the assistance of 250 Sunway University School of Hospitality students, the 100 young chefs packed a total of 100,000 dehydrated meals for the most impoverished communities in Cambodia. Comprising rice, soy, vegetables, flavoring and 21 essential vitamins and minerals which are highly nutritious, each pre-packed meal provided by Rise Against Hunger Malaysia can serve 6 individuals.

"I know all of you would want a good start to your careers, do well in life and make a name for yourselves. It is normal for one to aspire to succeed. But do try to give or contribute a little of your time - it could be as simple as helping out at a soup kitchen to nourish the hungry or prep and sell your food creations with the process donated to a charity of your choice, or like today; volunteer to help pack a dry meals for those in need. It takes but a little effort and a bit of your time to help make a difference in someone's life."
